Shaw promotes Mehr and Kernahan, hires Piercy and Pitt


CALGARY – Shaw Communications recently added a couple of new executives, one to oversee its wireless push, and promoted a pair of others.

The company has named Jay Mehr to senior vice president, operations for Shaw Communications with responsibility for all of Shaw’s distribution activities including Shaw Cable, Shaw Business, Shaw Satellite and Shaw Wireless.

Cam Kernahan has been promoted to group vice president, wireless and business with responsibility for Shaw’s wireless product launch and the Shaw Business organization.

Jim Pitt has been hired as vice president, operations – wireless (he replaces Lawrence Cooke, with whom Shaw parted ways in January). Pitt will “have the accountability for the leadership of Shaw’s wireless operations with a focus on deploying a unique wireless offering to our customers,” says the company announcement.

Finally, John Piercy is has been hired as vice-president, operations looking after “a number of Shaw’s regional systems ensuring continued exceptional customer service for cable, internet and home phone.”

Mehr (right) has over 14 years of experience with Shaw in which he has held a number of operational roles that include group vice president, operations, Shaw Cable; vice president, operations as well as various regional manager roles in B.C., Ontario and Alberta.

Kernahan (left) has over six years of experience with Shaw as vice president, operations. Prior to this, he has over 15 years experience within the telecommunications industry with roles in engineering, product management and operations.

Pitt (right) “has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry holding a variety of operational roles with a number of Canada’s leading communications service providers,” says the Shaw release. “He has over 25 years experience within the wireless industry including the launching of a number of cellular services within Canada.” He has been CEO of Navigata and was most recently vice president of partnership development and carrier relations at SaskTel.

Piercy (left) has over 27 years of experience in the communications industry holding a number of senior roles in marketing, finance, operations and product development with a variety of Canada’s cable and telecommunications organizations, most recently as president of Mountain Cablevision and CEO of Atria Networks.
