CALGARY – Shaw Communications told investors today that the company is not happy with the financial results turned in by its business services division, so it has altered strategy and parted ways with the division’s leader, promoting Ron McKenzie to take over for John Piercy, who has left the company.

During the company’s quarterly conference call with financial analysts, company EVP and COO Jay Mehr noted that after seeing double-digit percentage growth in EBITDA its enterprise division for a few quarters, posting just 5% growth in the first quarter of fiscal 2015 wasn’t good enough.

Mehr said that couple of months ago, the company began a “deep strategic dive on its strategy” in the business market, “because clearly we were all around it, but we did not have the crispness in our business strategy that we currently have in consumer. That work is now almost complete and I think we have every confidence our new simplified strategy will yield results,” he said.

“We made a leadership change in the Shaw Business unit last week and we’re pleased to announce Ron McKenzie has taken over Shaw Business,” Mehr added. “Ron’s a seasoned executive with a terrific track record both with Shaw and in the B2B space and I’m confident under Ron’s leadership we’re going to be able to deliver the results we all know this opportunity provides.”

McKenzie takes over as senior vice-president, business. He was most recently vice-president, operations for Shaw’s consumer business. He joined the company in 2009, as regional manager for the company’s Hamilton cable system, which has since been sold to Rogers. Piercy had been with Shaw since early 2011 when he was hired as VP cable operations.
