TORONTO – Shaw Media is set to honour Remembrance Day with programming paying tribute to the men and women who have served and continue to serve Canada during times of war, armed conflict and peace.
From Friday, November 8 through Monday, November 11, History's schedule will feature Canadian produced-programming including the documentaries 28 Heroes, marking the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War; Sector Sarajevo, which explores what it means to be a peacekeeper in a conflict zone; and War Story, which premiered last year and returns with eight new episodes. The Days of Remembrance schedule includes other Canadian favourites such as Dieppe: Uncovered, D-Day to Victory, Passchendaele, The Great Escape: Secrets Revealed and Storming Juno.
In support of its on-air content, History is also launching a microsite that will offer show pages for featured specials, full length episodes of the channel's programs, and behind-the-scenes interview clips that elaborate on the programming.
Global News will air its annual Canada Remembers special live and commercial free from the National War Memorial ceremony in Ottawa on November 11 at 10:30am ET/7:30am PT, while on November 9, investigative news magazine program 16×9 will focus on the stories of three ordinary people who did extraordinary things in three different wars – a 90 year old woman who risked her life to save others in the Second World War, a man who spent 42 years behind bars in a prison in Stalinist Russia during the Cold War, and the Canadian lieutenant featured in History's 28 Heroes who was charged with leading a group of 28 Canadian soldiers to safety during the Korean War.
