OTTAWA – Shaw Media and Catalyst Canada are teaming up with Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) on a new initiative designed to expand opportunities for women in Canada’s ICT sector.
Scheduled to roll out this fall, The Protégé Project will help to prepare senior, qualified women for positions of power and leadership in Canada’s largest communications, media and technology companies.
To date, 11 senior executives in leading communications, media and technology organizations have signed on to personally support the project. An equivalent number of up-and-coming female corporate executives and entrepreneurs will be selected and matched to these leaders, based on industry experience and qualities including leadership, business acumen and strategic vision.
“This is the kind of action and commitment that creates results”, said Janice McDonald, national chair of the WCT Board of Directors, in the press release. “I am delighted to see these industry executives stepping up to give competent, capable women the chance to reach their full potential. I think it’s going to help put Canada on the world stage for digital innovation.”
"We are proud to partner with WCT and Catalyst on The Protégé Project which will help to increase the number of senior women in Canadian business", added Paul Roberston, EVP broadcasting for Shaw Communications and president, Shaw Media. "At Shaw, we believe a diverse and balanced workforce reflective of our population generates well-rounded thought and perspective, and is critical in delivering exceptional customer and viewer experiences."
More details will be posted to the WCT website shortly.
