CALGARY – Shaw is keeping the home fires burning for the holidays again. Yesterday it put its virtual fireplace on screen on Shaw Digital Digest, and analog customers can cozy up to the TV fire starting Dec. 24.
The tradition began in 1999 at its operations in Victoria, which put the image of a wood-burning fire as a sort of screensaver on one channel. When it was removed to make way for regular programming, the cableco was flooded with calls from viewers who missed its warm fuzzy feeling. The fire soon spread to Shaw operations across Western Canada.
"The Christmas log has become a huge part of the holiday tradition for Shaw," said Peter Bissonnette, President of Shaw Communications. "Our customers’ response over the years has been nothing short of incredible and we are pleased to bring this heart-warming image back into our Christmas broadcasts this season."
But the log has gone digital this year. Customers with Shaw digital service can use their remote to order up any of three different kinds of logs, each with its own crackling sounds and music. Proceeds from all log VOD orders will be going to local charities in Shaw communities.
