Shaw donates $60,000 to Kids Help Phone

TORONTO – Kids Help Phone announced today it will enhance the organization’s online counselling services with the help of a $60,000 grant provided by Shaw Communications.

"Young people want and need our help in a variety of ways and it’s our responsibility to respond by expanding our services to meet that demand," said Bill Saul, president and CEO of Kids Help Phone. "It is only with the support of companies like Shaw Communications Inc. that Kids Help Phone can continue to be there by phone and online when young people across the country reach out for help."

Last year saw the demand for Kids Help Phone’s telephone and online services grow bigger than ever and the organization predicts that it will continue to grow. Nationally, Kids Help Phone helped kids in need more than a million times on the phone and online. In Western Canada.

"We are proud to support the work of Kids Help Phone and applaud them for the phenomenal gains they have made in assisting the children of our communities," said Jim Shaw, CEO of Shaw Communications, in the press release. "By partnering with Kids Help Phone to help enhance their online counselling services, when Canadian kids reach out for help they will now have access to an even more convenient and timely response at a time when they need it most."

In response to the demand from Canadian kids the organization has begun to overhaul its online "Help Yourself" sections by making them more interactive and appealing to young people who visit the site. The bullying section has already been enhanced, and other sections will be overhauled as money becomes available.
