CALGARY – Shaw Communications has teamed up with VOXCOM Security Systems to provide an end-to-end security solution for the cable company’s Digital Phone Service customers.
VOXCOM is able to transfer a customer’s existing monitoring services to their Emergency Response Centre at no additional cost and without any interruptions in service.
Thousands of customers in Western Canada have changed their traditional home phone service to Shaw in the past six months. Most have kept their home phone number, they have kept their home phone equipment, and they have even maintained their existing home security system, says the company.
"Our commitment was to make Shaw Digital Phone a reliable alternative to traditional home phone service, and that commitment included supporting the security and monitoring systems that are so valuable to many of our customers," said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Communications, in a release. "Because all Shaw Digital Phone traffic travels over our managed broadband network, instead of the public Internet, we can ensure these home security systems will continue to offer the protection and reliability that customers require."
As of the end of May, more than 22,000 customers had already chosen to move to Shaw Digital Phone, exceeding the company’s initial expectations.
"Even in the event of a power failure, the battery backup capabilities of Digital Phone will keep home security systems in contact with monitoring centres for several hours," continued Bissonnette. "It’s all part of the peace of mind that our service provides."
"Shaw Digital Phone Service integrates seamlessly with our security alarm monitoring services," said Brad Sparrow, VOXCOM’s president and CEO. "Our emergency response centre will continue to monitor customers for intrusion and life safety events such as smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, panic and medical emergencies. Customers can rest assured that immediate action can be taken to save lives and protect property."
