CALGARY – Films by foreign directors which may have never before been seen in Canada are now available to Shaw Cable customers through Eurocinema.
Eurocinema is an on-demand service celebrating European and international film and "will provide Shaw customers access to feature works by legendary directors that have never before been seen in Canada," says the Shaw press release.
"Until now, regular access to foreign films has been somewhat limited in Canada," said Peter Bissonnette, president. "We’re thrilled to welcome Eurocinema to our video on demand line-up."
Eurocinema is available on over 50 cable TV systems serving nearly 10,000,000 subscribers.
Eurocinema will make its debut on Shaw with eight, two-hour themed blocks, totaling 16 hours of original programming. Each feature film will serve as the centerpiece of a two-hour hosted thematic programming block designed to provide perspective on the main theme, with supplemental contact such as host commentary, original documentaries, director interviews, as well as rarely seen short-format films relevant to the feature. Each block is available individually for $3.99 through Shaw VOD.
Content will be refreshed monthly.
The line-up for May includes such titles as "The Freelancers" (Les Cachetonneurs) and "Lise and Andre," by award-winning director Denis Dercourt. Beginning June 1, 2003 Avignon Film Festival Winner "Juliette’s Baby" is among the titles to be added to the schedule.
