Wireless growth powers Q3 profits at Telus

VANCOUVER – Telus saw third quarter revenues grow 3.6% and profits increase 13% on the strength of its wireless unit. Revenues grew $2.87 billion from $2.77 billion a year earlier, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 4.6% to $1.04 billion.  EBITDA excluding restructuring and other like costs increased by 5.7% to $1.05 billion. Net income increased 10.2% from $323 million to $356 million year-over-year, while adjusted net income rose 13% to $365 million. Telus lends a hand to young entrepreneurs

New attempt to sell Mobilicity to Telus reportedly fails

OTTAWA – The federal government has quashed another try by Mobilicity to sell itself to Telus. According to a Globe and Mail report on Wednesday, Industry Canada confirmed late Tuesday that it provided a confidential answer to Mobilicity about a potential transaction that the small carrier was trying to complete while under court protection from its creditors. Telus/Mobilicity sale still in play; Lyons to step down

TORONTO – Telus may still have an opportunity to buy Mobilicity after an Ontario court awarded the struggling wireless carrier more time to restructure its business and complete a potential sale. According to a Globe and Mail report on Friday, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has extended the “stay period” during which the small carrier is shielded from any new or existing legal actions from October 30 until December 20, 2013. Telus donates $75,000 to improving IT resources for Nova Scotia students

HALIFAX – Telus will award grants of up to $5,000 each to select teachers in 16 Nova Scotia schools for new technology for learning in their classrooms through the $75,000 Telus Technology for Teachers Fund.
