Huawei sues the U.S. government; mentions Telus in its defence

SHENZHEN, China – Huawei announced Thursday morning that it has filed a lawsuit in a U.S. court that challenges the constitutionality of the American government’s ban on the deployment of Huawei technology by American carriers – and carriers which do business with the U.S. government. Through this action, Huawei seeks a declaratory judgment that the restrictions targeting Huawei are unconstitutional, and a permanent injunction against these restrictions, reads the press release. Telus connecting Airdrie to its PureFibre network

AIRDRIE, AB – Telus will invest $60 million to connect more than 90% of homes and businesses in Airdrie directly to its fibre optic network. The gigabit-enabled Telus PureFibre network will enable connected residents to immediately take advantage of dramatically faster Internet speeds of 750/750 Mbps, while businesses, schools, healthcare providers, and other institutions can access even more speed and capacity, reads the news release.  The network offers symmetrical service, meaning that customers can upload just as fast as they download. Telus adds five new Stingray channels to Optik TV offering

MONTREAL — Five new Stingray music television channels will be available to Telus Optik TV subscribers in Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec as part of an expanded distribution agreement between the two companies. Telus adds subs, grows revenue and earnings; unveils 2019 targets

VANCOUVER – Fourth quarter results released today from Telus show consolidated operating revenue increased by 6.3% compared to Q4 2017 to $3.8 billion. Growth was driven by higher wireless network revenue and wireline data services revenue growth, as well as higher wireless equipment revenue, the company said in its release this morning. Earnings before interest, income taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 1.1% to $1.2 billion thanks to higher revenue growth and higher wireless equipment margins. Telus is tops in 4G availability, speeds: OpenSignal

LONDON, UK – With the 5G era on the horizon, all three of Canada's national mobile operators averaged impressive download speeds across their mobile broadband networks, but Telus has taken the lead for 4G availability, says OpenSignal in its most recent Mobile Networks Experience: Canada report. OTTAWA – The CRTC has denied a request from Telus to amend that company's regional broadcasting licences for various terrestrial broadcasting distribution undertakings in British Columbia and Alberta by deleting six licensed areas. In its application, Telus asked to drop the areas of Prince George, Terrace, Vernon and Penticton in BC, and Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray in Alberta, citing the carve-out criteria required to remove a service area as a separate, exempt undertaking from a regional licence.
