Deaf push CRTC for video relay services in Canada

REGINA – Members and supporters of the deaf community gathered in front of the CRTC building in Regina on Friday as part of nine rallies across the country in support bringing Video Relay Services (VRS) to Canada. VRS makes it easier for deaf individuals to communicate using the telephone by allowing them to use sign language via video to an interpreter, who translates and speaks to the person on the other line. Telus, Huawei partner on cloud computing research lab in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The new Huawei-Telus Innovation Centre for Enterprise Cloud Services will be unveiled Thursday at Carleton University in Ottawa. Located in Carleton’s new engineering building, the lab will be a venue for performing cutting-edge research in cloud computing. Students, faculty and industry will research real-world problems associated with enterprise clouds, including management of computing, on-demand storage and network resources, data-centre networking, scalability, business continuity and security. Consumer group OpenMedia.ca joins call for set asides in 700 MHz auction

VANCOUVER – The new wireless companies in Canada appear to have an ally in OpenMedia.ca after the consumer group kicked off a new campaign Wednesday dubbed 'Stop the Cell Phone Squeeze'.
 
The campaign includes an on-line petition that encourages Canadians to ask Industry Minister Christian Paradis and Prime Minister Harper to set aside wireless spectrum for “independent competitors” in the upcoming 700 MHz auction.

Telus activates Fraser Canyon wireless coverage

VANCOUVER – Telus is helping to bring wireless service to B.C.’s Fraser Canyon for the first time. Telus predicts healthy profits, revenue for next year

VANCOUVER – Telus is expecting 2012 to be a rosy one.  The telco said Friday that subscribers increases for its smart phone, TV and high speed  Internet services will help to drive up its profits and revenues next year. Telus is predicting that its revenues will come in between $10.7 billion and $11 billion, up 4 – 6.5% than in 2011, and that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) is expected to be higher by up to 6%. Telus expands 4G wireless services in Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Telus has turned on more new HSPA+ dual-cell wireless sites in Manitoba, extending its wireless network reach to 66% of the province. The new wireless coverage is live now in Selkirk, Victoria Beach, Lockport, Ste.
