Domestic roaming still “undue, unreasonable, unjust,” says Wind

GATINEAU – Without domestic roaming rate caps Wind Mobile can’t compete in the Canadian marketplace and despite what the incumbent wireless companies have to say, the high wholesale rates they charge the newcomers prevent some Canadians from choosing Wind as their provider. New technology turns Telus employees’ smartphones into virtual security badges

TORONTO and LONDON, ENGLAND – Telus has announced a partnership with a U.K. software company that will allow its employees to access the company’s secure buildings, networks and sensitive data from anywhere at any time with a simple tap of their smartphones. The partnership with Intercede, a provider of identity and credential management software, will use a technology called MyID that uses universal integrated circuit cards and personal identity verification (PIV) technology from Gemalto, a digital security company based in The Netherlands. CBC snags deals with YouTube, telcos to post Sochi Olympics coverage

TORONTO – CBC has upped the ante on its Olympics coverage, announcing today that its “every hour” coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics will now also be accessible virtually “everywhere,” thanks to new licensing agreements with Bell, Rogers, Telus, Videotron, and YouTube. The public broadcaster said that live and on-demand English- and French-language Olympic Winter Games content from CBC/Radio-Canada will be “top of menu” for the telcos, and will also be prominently featured on popular digital portals including MSN.ca and YouTube. TORONTO – Telus jumped in to the mobile payments game Tuesday, partnering with CIBC on a mobile payment app for Telus mobile devices with Near-Field Communications (NFC) capability. Beginning today, Telus customers using the CIBC Mobile Payment App and that have a CIBC credit card account will be able to make mobile payments under $50 at popular retailers across Canada including coffee shops and grocery stores. GATINEAU – Submissions to the CRTC on its wholesale domestic roaming rates proceeding break down just where most would expect. In December, the CRTC launched a review of the rates Rogers, Bell and Telus charge smaller wireless service providers when customers of those smaller companies use their phones to roam outside of their own provider’s home network. CRTC to consider Rogers Media licences, Telus PPV, in April

OTTAWA – The CRTC will examine licence renewal applications from Rogers Media, plus consider a second request for a Canadian film channel and a pay-per-view service for Telus at a hearing scheduled for April 8, 2014 in Gatineau.
