PRIVACY: Be prepared for breaches or else, warns Telus chief data officer

TORONTO – 'Be prepared' is an old Boy Scout motto. But Telus' vice-president and chief data officer told a privacy conference Wednesday that being prepared can also make the difference between a data breach being big headlines for days or dealt with quickly and quietly. "It really very often can be how you respond that makes the difference between a major incident that you manage and get through and live to survive," Pamela Snively told the Toronto conference. Before taking her present post at Telus, Snively was a consultant who advised companies on how to respond after a breach…. Continue Reading

TV complaints on the rise OTTAWA – Canadians had more complaints about their television services than about their telecom and Internet services combined, says the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS). Not enough alternatives to wireless access services, says Rogers; yes there is, counters Telus

GATINEAU – A Bell Canada application seeking the forbearance of wireless access service (WAS) has support from network partner Telus, saying there are plenty of alternatives. Rogers Communications, on the other hand, opposes it, noting that it’s not as simple as saying there are alternatives, and that therefore WAS can be forborne. The CRTC has dealt with WAS on two separate occasions, the most recent being its wholesale services decision 2015-326. A 2012 decision also delved into WAS. Both times, the Commission has chosen not to forbear from regulating it and allowed wireless service providers to continue to… Continue Reading
