TORONTO — Asian Television Network International Limited (ATN), Canada’s largest South Asian broadcaster, announced today it has acquired the Canadian distribution rights for two more TV channels from Sony Pictures Networks India — Sony YAY! and Sony PAL.

OTTAWA – Canada’s major telecommunications providers have agreed on an initial five-year term to allow customers to roam on each others’ networks on an emergency basis in the event of a major network outage to ensure Canadians are not left out of essential services, such as 911 access, according to a formal agreement announced Wednesday by the Minister of Innovation.

Telus receiving $9.8M to connect 1,600 rural B.C. homes
OTTAWA — The governments of Canada and British Columbia are jointly providing almost $1.9 million in funding for two projects by Prince Rupert-based CityWest to bring high-speed Internet access to 663 households on Keats Island and in New Brighton on Gambier Island, both located northwest of Vancouver.

THE BIGGEST STICKING point for the proposed merger of Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications continues to be Shaw’s wireless assets.
As Cartt.ca previously reported, this is even after the companies came to a definitive agreement with Quebecor for the sale of Shaw’s Freedom Mobile. (The agreement is contingent on the Rogers/Shaw merger closing and on necessary approvals.)

OTTAWA – The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) and National Pensioners Federation (NPF) are asking the CRTC to launch a consultation on the implementation of credit card surcharges by Canadian telecoms and broadcasting distribution undertakings.

OTTAWA – Earlier this month, the CRTC asked Rogers for more information about its July nationwide outage, according to a letter posted on the CRTC’s website last night.
