VANCOUVER – The bargaining committee of the union representing thousands of Telus workers said Friday that most members have agreed to a new deal with the telecom giant, averting a strike.
The committee of the United Steelworkers Local 1944, which consists of 6,800 Telus workers, said 70 per cent of members agreed to the four-year deal, which includes incremental step-ups in compensation through October 2026.

VANCOUVER – The union representing 6,800 Telus workers across the country said Monday it has reached a tentative agreement with the telecom giant after a meeting with company executives over the weekend.
The bargaining committee of the United Steelworkers Local 1944 said in a blog post that it will recommend members ratify the offer made by Telus. It has scheduled meetings to run from March 13 to 15.

VANCOUVER – As the British Columbia government prepares to take bids for a new telecommunications services agreement proposal expected for this summer, the province reported in a quarterly report last year that it had saved $471 million with its existing deal with Telus.
The savings are outlined in the performance report for the period ending on March 31, 2022, which was obtained from a freedom of information request. The United Steelworkers Local 1994 and Telus have been in a back-and-forth over terms since October 2021, two months before the previous contract expired. Company said two recent ISP acquisitions will help deliver on its home security business

VANCOUVER – Telus executives said today they are “bullish” on the revenue generation that connected devices will deliver, especially as 5G wireless connectivity becomes more of a mainstay.
The company reported a 16% increase in its connected device base – and year-over-year growth of 30.9% — as it added 106,000 new devices in the fourth quarter of 2022 for a total of 2.5 million.

BURNABY, B.C. – A union representing Telus workers is threatening to escalate actions in the absence of a better labour deal with the telecom giant.

VANCOUVER — Telus last month completed the integration of customers of internet service provider Start.ca after acquiring the small outfit, the company confirmed.
The customer networks of the London, Ont.-based provider of internet, television and home phone services were integrated into Telus last month, “giving customer access to TELUS’ global-leading wireless network, suite of home automation and security, health and entertainment products and services,” Telus told Cartt in a statement.
Richmond, B.C.-based Altima, another ISP that Telus acquired, was integrated into Telus’s network in June 2022.
