VANCOUVER – Wireless subscriber net additions at Telus dropped a surprising 46% in the first quarter of 2009, which in turn, dragged down its average revenue per wireless user (ARPU) by 5.6%
The company released some preliminary wireless subscriber data Thursday, a month ahead of its full financial results release for the quarter ended March 31, which will come on May 7.
Canada’s second largest phone company explained that the weakness in its wireless net subscriber additions were primarily attributable to the combination of “a lack of customary growth in gross additions combined with an increase in deactivations.”

VANCOUVER – Telus is investing $500 million on advanced wireless and wireline broadband infrastructure in British Columbia, the company announced Tuesday.
Construction of its next generation wireless network is underway, and the new network, based on the latest version of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology, will launch by early 2010.

OTTAWA – Add Telus to the list of telco’s appealing to the Federal government over CRTC decisions.
The B.C.-based telco filed a petition to the Governor in Council late last week over Telecom Decision CRTC 2008-117 and calling for the rescission of Telecom Order CRTC 2009-111, expressing many of the same concerns as BCE.

After seeing a fourfold increase in phone and email scams in recent weeks, Telus issued a public service announcement encouraging its customers to “just hang up when scammers call”.
The common thread in each scam, the announcement said, is that fraud artists try to trick customers out of personal information – such as addresses, birthdates, account numbers, passwords and credit card numbers, by posing as a legitimate caller.

VANCOUVER – Telus Corporation reported a 6% growth in revenue to $9.65 billion, and a 5% growth in EBITDA for its fiscal year ended December 31, 2008.
Revenue for its fourth quarter was $2.45 billion, an increase of 5% from a year ago, driven primarily by a 7% growth in wireless revenue and 13% growth in wireline data revenue. VANCOUVER – Telus is predicting 4-6 % consolidated revenue growth in 2009, representing an increase of approximately $375 to $625 million.

VANCOUVER – Telus reported a 6% increase in operating revenues in the third quarter, but a 30% drop in net income, the company announced Friday.
Wireless saw an 8.7% per cent revenue increase to $1.2 billion thanks to “record” year to date subscriber growth. Telus now has 5,981,200 wireless subscribers, up 10.6% from a year earlier. Wireline revenue grew 3.6% to $1.25 billion, driven by data growth, the release continued, though 43,000 connections were lost during the quarter, bringing the total number of landline connections to 4,282,000.
