VANCOUVER – Telus Corporation reported a slim 1% growth in revenue for its first quarter, and lowered its full-year guidance accordingly.
Revenue for the quarter ended March 31, 2009, was $2.375 billion, an increase of $25 million, led by a 3% growth in wireless revenue and a 6% growth in wireline data revenue, which the company said more than offset its on-going declines in local and long distance wireline revenues.
The Burnaby, BC based telecom company lowered its 2009 guidance to “reflect the worsening Canadian economy since (December 2008), weaker than expected wireless results at Telus and the industry in…

LAS VEGAS – Being the primary video source for customers is a far different thing than being there for them as a wireline, wireless or data provider.
Cable companies know this inherently thanks to decades of experience and many, many mistakes over the years. Cable’s first alert that there might be a network problem used to be when a customer called in to report they had no TV service and it might have taken a few calls (and please be there sometime between 8 and 8…) before the problem was fixed.
Nowadays, large cable companies have sophisticated network operations…

VANCOUVER – Wireless subscriber net additions at Telus dropped a surprising 46% in the first quarter of 2009, which in turn, dragged down its average revenue per wireless user (ARPU) by 5.6%
The company released some preliminary wireless subscriber data Thursday, a month ahead of its full financial results release for the quarter ended March 31, which will come on May 7.
Canada’s second largest phone company explained that the weakness in its wireless net subscriber additions were primarily attributable to the combination of “a lack of customary growth in gross additions combined with an increase in deactivations.”

OTTAWA – Add Telus to the list of telco’s appealing to the Federal government over CRTC decisions.
The B.C.-based telco filed a petition to the Governor in Council late last week over Telecom Decision CRTC 2008-117 and calling for the rescission of Telecom Order CRTC 2009-111, expressing many of the same concerns as BCE.
Citing its capital program for 2009 which planned to invest $2.05 billion dollars in its networks, Telus’ petition said that rather than encourage investment risks in the current economy, “the CRTC has declared that we will be required to share this new investment…

After seeing a fourfold increase in phone and email scams in recent weeks, Telus issued a public service announcement encouraging its customers to “just hang up when scammers call”.
The common thread in each scam, the announcement said, is that fraud artists try to trick customers out of personal information – such as addresses, birthdates, account numbers, passwords and credit card numbers, by posing as a legitimate caller.
Providing that kind of information could lead to identity theft or other fraud, and Telus suggested hanging up when scammers call. Legitimate telemarketers always know your name and always provide a…
