Shaw adds YouTube, YouTube Kids, to BlueSky TV

CALGARY – Shaw Communications has integrated the YouTube and YouTube Kids apps into its intuitive BlueSky TV platform as part of ongoing enhancements to the service. Shaw said Tuesday that BlueSky TV subscribers may now access YouTube’s entire library of content without needing to change inputs or remotes, and may also the intuitive voice-powered remote to search for specific content that will direct them straight to YouTube.  Families with children may also access the YouTube Kids app, which is a separate app providing a family-friendly viewing experience and simple navigation for young viewers. Shaw completes first successful 5G technical trials

CALGARY – Shaw Communications on Tuesday announced the successful completion of its first 5G technical trials at its Barlow Campus Technology Centre in Calgary. Conducted in collaboration with Nokia, CableLabs and Rohde & Schwarz, Shaw said that the trials used pre-commercial equipment and leveraged developmental 28GHz licenses provided by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Shaw to donate $50K to children’s charities through Shaw CFL Top Performers initiative

Restructuring costs outweigh Q2 wireless gains at Shaw

CALGARY – Despite an influx of new wireless customers, Shaw Communications posted a second quarter net loss related to its voluntary departure and restructuring programs. Shaw CMO Little to leave the company

CALGARY – Shaw Communications executive vice-president, chief marketing and culture officer Jim Little is leaving the company on May 4th, reported the Globe and Mail Wednesday. Cord-cutting slows thanks to Shaw’s BlueSky TV

However, it's likely just temporary OTTAWA – While Canada’s publicly traded television service providers lost almost 20% fewer TV subscribers in 2017 versus 2016, this is likely a temporary positive turn in a long road of permanent TV subscriber declines in the future, according to new research released Wednesday. Ottawa-based research and consulting firm Boon Dog Professional Services found that BCE, Rogers, Shaw, Vidéotron, Cogeco, and Telus combined lost approximately 166,000 in their respective 2017 fiscal years, down from an estimated 205,000 lost in the previous year. SKIDEGATE, BC – Thirty-three rural and remote British Columbia communities, including13 Indigenous communities, will receive new or improved high-speed Internet thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of $38 million. The funding, announced Tuesday by Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains, and British Columbia’s Minister of Citizens’ Services Jinny Sims, comes in addition to the $45.4 million investment announced in January for 154 coastal BC communities.
