Bell using Casa Systems gear for 5G fixed wireless rollout

ANDOVER, Mass. — Casa Systems, a U.S.-based provider of both physical and cloud-native broadband technology solutions for wireless, cable and fixed networks, announced yesterday an exclusive agreement with Bell Canada to provide 5G Sub-6 high-gain outdoor consumer premise equipment (CPE) for Bell’s Wireless Home Internet (WHI) service. Bell’s WHI uses fixed wireless technology to extend broadband Internet access to rural and underserved communities. Telus achieves “strong” Q2 results; is ready for 5G future

VANCOUVER – Telus announced its second quarter results today, which includes a 9.5% increase in adjusted EBITDA over the same period in 2020, to $1.5 billion. The company further reported consolidated operating revenues and other income increased to $4.1 billion – a 10% increase from the same period last year, according to a news release. 3500 MHz spectrum auction raises $8.9B (updated)

OTTAWA – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada announced today the provisional results of the 3500 MHz auction, which earned a total of $8.91 billion. The auction began in June and concluded July 23. Winning bidders have until August 13 to submit 20% of their final payment and until October 4 to submit the remaining 80%. The money will be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund administered by the Receiver General of Canada, according to an ISED press release. Copyright decision: Court says no to BDUs, yes to Collectives

By Denis Carmel IN A DECISION RENDERED last Thursday, the Federal Court of Appeal (FCA) dismissed an application for judicial review that had been brought by six broadcasting distribution undertakings (BDUs) and partially granted an application made by a group of nine collective societies. The appeals stem from a decision from the Copyright Board of Canada (the Board), issued in August 2019 relating to royalties for the period 2014–2018. TPIA: TekSavvy files court challenge against CRTC’s wholesale rate decision as independents dig in for a long fight

Start.ca wants government to overturn decision; CNOC launches email campaign CHATHAM, LONDON and OTTAWA — On Monday, independent ISP TekSavvy Solutions filed a notice of motion with the Federal Court of Appeal seeking leave to appeal the CRTC’s recent wholesale third-party Internet access (TPIA) rates decision which reversed the Commission’s August 2019 decision to lower the rates. Monday was the deadline for parties to file a court appeal against the Commission’s decision.
