Cygnal, Rogers, Aurora team up

MARKHAM, Ont. – Cygnal Technologies Corporation and Rogers Cable today announced the companies have won a 10-year contract to provide enhanced Internet connectivity to the York Catholic District School Board. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies – along with Aurora Cable TV Ltd. for schools that fall outside of Rogers Cable’s territory – will provide a complete package of managed network services for 76 elementary schools and 12 secondary schools. UPDATE: Aliant attacks Halifax on price

HALIFAX – Eastern telco Aliant officially launched its digital television service, Aliant TV, in Halifax today. The IP-delivered television service boasts digital picture and sound and features over 150 television and over 70 music channels. The company had been testing the service with about 50 customers for months prior to today’s announcement. The lowest-price package of 75 channels is $29 a month for the first year and $39 thereafter, and only for Aliant High Speed value package customers. Free RAI for a week, from Rogers

TORONTO – Rogers Cable today announced that it will offer a free preview of RAI International on channel 59 to its non-digital cable customers in Ontario. The free preview will run from Monday, June 20th to 12 p.m. Sunday, June 26th. RAI International is a 24-hour international programming service of Italy’s public broadcaster targeted at Italian-speaking communities. It offers a broad range of programs including feature films, news and entertainment. TORONTO – CHFI put a letter to its listeners on chfi.com today that says June 20th will be the final morning show for Jay & Billie. Such a warning is a bit of a departure for radio, since host changes are usually done without any listener warning at all – the DJs are just suddenly gone one day – so kudos to CHFI for that move. Rogers’ summer school supplies drive gets under way

TORONTO – Rogers Cable today kicked off its annual Rogers School Supply Drive. The drive supports the Daily Bread Food Bank by providing school supplies for underprivileged children across the Greater Toronto Area. According to the Food Bank, 66,500 children access food banks each month. The average family relying upon food banks, including children, has only $11.98 per day to meet all of their needs – including food – so new school supplies become a luxury.
