Rogers expands local calling area

OTTAWA – Rogers Cable will expand its local calling area in the Ottawa-Gatineau region on Monday. Calls previously classified as long distance in the region will now be free local calls for Rogers Home Phone customers. Customers will no longer required to dial "1" before the number and will not be charged for a long distance call within Rogers’ new local calling zones. Rogers, Sprint forge cross-border business net

TORONTO – Rogers and Sprint have gotten together to offer businesses with locations in Canada and the U.S. access to a new, secure IP-based network. OTTAWA – Former Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association senior vice-president and general counsel, Lori Assheton-Smith has launched her own business. This week she made official the establishment of Lori D. Assheton-Smith Professional Corporation, "through which I will continue to provide legal services and advice in the areas of broadcasting, telecommunications and Internet law and regulation," she said. Rogers talking to OK Radio about acquisitions

TORONTO – Rogers Media is talking to the OK Radio Group about buying some or all of the Western-based company’s stations. Rogers is “discussing opportunities” with OK but doesn’t know if or when a deal might be reached, company spokesperson Jan Innes told cartt.ca. TORONTO – Yesterday, Rogers forecast more growth in its wireless applications and services. Today, it’s showing what it means. Rogers Wireless announced the availability of the Sales Anywhere software for the Salesforce.com service, to allow sales professionals to access client databases remotely on a mobile device. Rogers Q1 revenue grows to $2 billion

TORONTO – Rogers Communications Inc. reported strong first quarter 2006 results, posting revenues of $2.0 billion, up 28.4% from the previous quarter. Operating revenue rose in all three units, increasing 53.2% at Rogers Cable (which includes cable, Internet, and VoIP), 20.1% at Rogers Wireless, and 9.5% at Rogers Media. RCI’s operating profit rose 25.5% (year over year) to nearly $600 million for the three months ended Mar. 31, 2006.
