TORONTO – Rogers Communications will purchase 1.4 million of its outstanding class B non-voting shares for cancellation in a private purchase for an aggregate purchase price of $37,240,000.
This represents approximately 0.27% of the class B shares outstanding at June 4, 2009. The private purchase was made under an issuer bid exemption order issued by the Ontario Securities Commission.

TORONTO – IBM has signed a seven-year contract with Rogers Communications for information technology services and support, the companies announced.
“IBM will support Rogers’ ongoing information technology transformation with a stable and highly available IT environment,” reads the press release.
“To accommodate future growth, Rogers will have immediate access to IBM’s state-of-the-art data centre located outside Toronto. This will be linked to Rogers’ existing data centre facility using Rogers Business Services networking technology. OTTAWA – After dominating the three months worth of hearings earlier this Spring, the House of Commons committee on Canadian Heritage left out any recommendation on the controversial issue of fee for carriage in its report on the state of local television released Friday.
The committee heard testimony from 45 different groups in March, April and May about the issues and challenges facing Canada’s TV industry, from the importance of local television, to the fragmentation of TV audiences, through to declining advertising revenues.

TORONTO – National radio sales fell 13.9% in the third quarter of 2009, according to data from Canadian Broadcast Sales (CBS).
Over 82% of the shortfall occurred in four major categories – the Government sector was down by 54%; alcoholic beverages dropped by 32.5%; the financial services category was down 25%; and telecommunications dipped 20%. The retail and restaurant categories captured almost 30% of the total revenue spent.

Currently available to Shaw Cable customers, the adult programming network is distributed in Canada by Ottawa-based Ten Broadcasting.
