TORONTO — Rogers Business and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. announced today the launch of a 5G wireless private network (WPN) at the mining company’s Detour Lake Mine (pictured above) in northeastern Ontario.
Detour Lake is the second-largest gold producing mine in Canada, according to a press release, and the mine “is the first of its kind in Canada to be fully connected over a 5G Wireless Private Network, providing enhanced coverage, end-to-end reliability, full redundancy, and a low latency network across its 80-square-kilometre operation.”

VICTORIA — Rogers Communications announced yesterday it is expanding its wireless network along Highway 4 in British Columbia.
Fully funded by Rogers, the project includes construction of six new cellular towers and upgrades to two existing towers along the route between Port Alberni and Tofino, which “will improve cellular coverage for workers, travellers, and residents of several Vancouver Island communities,” reads a Rogers press release.

TORONTO — As part of its partnership with the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN), Rogers Communications announced today it has extended its 5G network to reach eight new cities and towns in Eastern Ontario.

MONCTON — Rogers Communications announced today it will invest close to $200 million to bring 100% pure fibre to up to 314,000 homes and businesses in New Brunswick, starting in the communities of Dieppe, Moncton, Riverview and Shediac.

TORONTO – While Jordan Banks was still named as president in a Rogers Sports and Media press release sent out yesterday, as of today he is no longer listed as such on the company’s leadership team webpage – instead, the page lists Colette Watson (above) in the role.

TORONTO — Although Rogers Communications has not made a formal announcement, a recent change to the Rogers leadership team webpage indicates Phil Hartling (above) has been promoted to the position of president of the company’s wireless division.
Last week, we told Cartt.ca readers about a Globe and Mail report that said Dave Fuller, then president of Rogers Wireless, was leaving the company.
Another Globe article published yesterday said Dan Golberg, senior vice-president of strategy and corporate development, and Sevaun Palvetzian, chief communications officer, are also leaving Rogers.

TORONTO — Rogers Communications announced late this afternoon Tony Staffieri (above) has been appointed as the company’s president and CEO, effective immediately.
Staffieri’s appointment follows a months-long period of turmoil at the company last fall during which board chair Edward Rogers sought to remove previous CEO Joe Natale, who eventually left the company in mid-November. At the time, Staffieri was appointed interim president and CEO.
Previously, Staffieri was Rogers’s chief financial officer until his abrupt departure at the end of September, before the power struggle at the company became public knowledge.

TORONTO – Dave Fuller (above), president of Rogers Wireless, is leaving the company, according to the Globe and Mail.
A report today says an unnamed source told the Globe Fuller, who has been president of Rogers’ wireless division since April 2021, will be replaced by Phil Hartling, a long-time Rogers executive who was in charge of expanding Rogers rurally last year.

NFTC begins construction in Mono and Amaranth
DUFFERIN, Ont. – Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) announced today Rogers Communications finished construction on a fibre-optic network that now offers high-speed Internet to 107 homes and businesses in Dufferin County in the community of Garafraxa Woods.
Rogers broke ground on the project, which was announced in September 2020, this past summer. The Governments of Canada and Ontario contributed $419,036 to the project through SWIFT, according to SWIFT’s website. The total value of the project is $687,804.
