OBITUARY: Former Shaw Communications CEO Jim Shaw

CALGARY – Shaw Communications vice chair and former CEO Jim Shaw has died at the age of 60, the Shaw family announced today. “It is with great sadness that the family of James R. TORONTO – With “Music’s Biggest Night” just around the corner, Rogers Media announced that City has extended its current deal with the Grammy Awards to continue as the Canadian broadcaster for another three years. Rogers completes wireless network coverage across SkyTrain system

VANCOUVER – Rogers and Fido customers are connected across Vancouver’s full SkyTrain system now that LTE and voice access expansion work in Burquitlam Tunnel on the Evergreen extension of the Millennium Line has wrapped up. Telefilm to invest $2.3M in 19 new docs

MONTREAL – More than half of the 19 documentaries receiving funding from Telefilm Canada will be produced, directed or written by women, the organization said Friday. CRTC orders Iristel to cease traffic stimulation

OTTAWA – The CRTC has sided with Rogers in its dispute with the Iristel group of companies over an alleged case of traffic stimulation. In December 2016, Rogers asked the Commission to intervene after it accused Iristel of “being unjustly enriched by gaming the regulatory framework for local competition” by profiting from the higher local termination charges applicable in the Northwest Territories.  Iristel denied the claims. Rogers, CBC extend ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ deal

TORONTO – Rogers Media and CBC have inked a new seven-year sub-licensing agreement for English-language broadcasts of Hockey Night in Canada and the Stanley Cup playoffs. The new deal, announced Tuesday, will begin with the NHL's 2019-20 season and run through the end of the 2025-26 season which is when Rogers’s 12-year, $5.2 billion national broadcast rights deal with the NHL is due to expire.  It follows a previous four-year sub-licensing deal and one-year extension.  As part of the new deal, CBC will continue to air nationally-televised regular season games on Saturday night plus all four rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Hockey… Continue Reading

SEATTLE – Amazon Prime Video in late September first announced it had picked up the BBC and AMC crime drama McMafia for 200 territories, excluding the U.S. and Canada, where AMC was to air the eight-part crime drama.
