Rogers launches wireless home Internet across southwestern Ontario

TORONTO — Rogers Communications today announced it’s launching wireless home broadband Internet service across more than 100 communities in southwestern Ontario, including areas around Halton Hills, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. Rogers wireless home Internet service leverages the company’s wireless network and infrastructure to deliver broadband to the home. Small antennas are set up on customers’ homes and positioned toward select towers which are equipped to support the increased usage. TSN announces 2021 World Juniors broadcast schedule

TORONTO — Bell Media’s TSN, along with Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), announced Monday the tournament schedule for this year’s hockey holiday tradition, the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Like this year’s NHL playoff finals, the World Juniors will be played in a hockey bubble at Rogers Place in Edmonton. Cogeco boards officially reject latest Altice/Rogers bid

Speedtest shows strong broadband speeds from Canadian providers

Rogers was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Canada in Q3, says Ookla SEATTLE — In its latest Speedtest Global Index measurement of network speeds in Canada, Seattle-based Ookla reports Rogers Communications was the fastest fixed broadband provider among top providers in Canada in the third quarter of 2020. According to Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data from July to September, Rogers achieved a speed score of 151.51 in Q3 2020. Cogeco rejects new $11.1 billion Altice/Rogers bid (updated)

Audet family would have received $900 million for controlling shares NEW YORK and TORONTO – Altice USA announced Sunday evening it has presented a new, higher offer to purchase Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications. Then a bit later on Sunday evening, it was rejected by Cogeco’s controlling shareholder. SWIFT awards $5.3 million for rural projects in Oxford County

LONDON – Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) announced it has granted $5.3 million in funding to expand fibre-optic broadband in Oxford County. Seven projects will bring high speed internet to 1,670 homes and businesses within the townships of Blandford-Blenheim, East Zorra-Tavistock, Norwich, South-West Oxford and Zorra. In total the county will receive $9.9 million in broadband upgrades, thanks to $4.6 million in contributions from the three internet service providers who will be doing the construction. MORE TV DISTRIBUTORS in Canada are adding CBC/Radio-Canada’s 24-hours news channels, CBC News Network and ICI RDI, to the lineup of channels available to all of their subscribers. The public broadcaster says it is collaborating with the country’s TV distributors as Canadians face a resurgence of Covid-19.
