Cogeco buys Quebec rural operator DeryTelecom for $405 million

MONTREAL –- Cogeco Communications announced this morning it will purchase rural cable/telco/ISP DeryTelecom for $405 million. Based in Saguenay, DeryTelecom offers internet, television, and telephony services to approximately 100,000 customers in over 200 municipalities across several regions in Quebec, including Estrie, Lanaudière, Montérégie and the Laurentians. Revenue and adjusted EBITDA for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2020 are estimated to be $105 million and $44 million, respectively, reads the Cogeco press release. Rogers launches wireless home Internet across southwestern Ontario

TORONTO — Rogers Communications today announced it’s launching wireless home broadband Internet service across more than 100 communities in southwestern Ontario, including areas around Halton Hills, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. Rogers wireless home Internet service leverages the company’s wireless network and infrastructure to deliver broadband to the home. Small antennas are set up on customers’ homes and positioned toward select towers which are equipped to support the increased usage. TORONTO — Bell Media’s TSN, along with Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), announced Monday the tournament schedule for this year’s hockey holiday tradition, the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Speedtest shows strong broadband speeds from Canadian providers

Rogers was the fastest fixed broadband provider in Canada in Q3, says Ookla SEATTLE — In its latest Speedtest Global Index measurement of network speeds in Canada, Seattle-based Ookla reports Rogers Communications was the fastest fixed broadband provider among top providers in Canada in the third quarter of 2020. According to Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data from July to September, Rogers achieved a speed score of 151.51 in Q3 2020. Cogeco rejects new $11.1 billion Altice/Rogers bid (updated)

Audet family would have received $900 million for controlling shares NEW YORK and TORONTO – Altice USA announced Sunday evening it has presented a new, higher offer to purchase Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications. Then a bit later on Sunday evening, it was rejected by Cogeco’s controlling shareholder.
