MONTREAL – TVA Group kicked off 2014 amidst heavy losses, especially in its television division.
The Quebecor–owned communications company recorded a net loss attributable to shareholders in the amount of $10.2 million for the period ended March 31, 2014, almost double its $5.9 million loss in the same quarter of 2013. Consolidated adjusted operating loss totalled $6.03 million this quarter, compared with adjusted operating income of $895,000 year-over-year.

The network said Wednesday that it has secured “a long-term spot” on Bell TV's basic satellite television and in Bell Fibe packages, and will also soon be available for the first time ever to Bell Aliant customers. TORONTO – Telus really wants to buy Mobilicity and has made another bid for the company, despite the knowledge the federal government really doesn’t want to see this deal happen.
Late Thursday, Data & Audio-Visual Enterprises Holdings and its affiliates (collectively, Mobilicity) announced Telus would acquire it for $350 million. The proposed transaction will move forward under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act rules. Mobilicity has been under creditor protection since September.

OTTAWA – At a soiree designed to mark its 15th anniversary, the Quebecor Fund also introduced its new Export Assistance Program (EXAP) and the first round of recipients.

OTTAWA – The CRTC has pushed back the deadline for comments on amendments to certain rules pertaining to the implementation of the national emergency alerting system.
After calling for feedback last month due March 31, the Commission said Tuesday that the deadline for receipt of comments has been extended to April 17, 2014.
The move comes at the behest of BCE, Cogeco Cable, Corus Entertainment, Newcap, Quebecor Media, Rogers Media, Shaw Communications, and Vista Radio which sent a joint letter to the Commission requesting the extension to provide comments in the proceeding.

MONTREAL – Despite an uptick in revenue, Quebecor Inc. ended 2013 with a net loss of $133.9 million, the company said Thursday.
Revenue for the year ended December 31, 2013 was $4.28 billion, up 0.7% from $4.25 billion in 2012, while adjusted operating income rose 5.1% to $1.45 billion over $1.38 billion last year. Adjusted income from continuing operations shot up to $214.1 million versus $182.3 million in 2012.
