Industry Canada okays spectrum transfer between Inukshuk and Rogers, Bell Mobility

OTTAWA – Industry Canada has approved a transfer of spectrum licences held by Inukshuk to Bell Mobility Inc. and Rogers. The two Broadband Radio Service (BRS) spectrum licences are in the Lower St. Lawrence and Gaspésie service area, and expire on March 31, 2021.  Noting that Inukshuk is a partnership between Rogers and Bell Mobility Inc., with each owning a 50% partnership interest, Industry Canada  said that the transfer will not result in any change in spectrum concentration. “The Department has determined that the requested transfer of these spectrum licences will not impact the ability of existing and future competitors to… Continue Reading

Gillis expands role at Industry Canada

OTTAWA – Industry Canada’s Kelly Gillis received a promotion this week as part of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s changes in the senior ranks of the public service. UPDATED: AWS-3 spectrum auction set for March 3, to favour operating new entrants

VANCOUVER – The federal government made good on its promise to set aside more spectrum for new wireless entrants, announcing Thursday that some 60% of AWS-3 spectrum will be reserved for operating new entrants at next year’s auction. Speaking from Vancouver, Industry Minister James Moore said that the remaining 40% will be open to all qualified bidders, and confirmed that the AWS-3 auction would take place on March 3, 2015.
