SPECTRUM: Minister Moore tells license holders to use it or lose it

OTTAWA – Use it or lose it.  That was the gist of Industry Minister James Moore’s message to Canadian spectrum holders on Thursday.  Following up on a Throne Speech promise that Canadians living in rural areas have greater access to high-speed Internet services, Minister Moore said that Industry Canada will begin renewing 2300 MHz and 3500 MHz spectrum licences next March, but will deny extension requests from holders whose licence conditions – especially deployment – have not been met. Record IPTV subscriber growth curbs cord-cutting, but not by much and not for long, says new report

OTTAWA – In the third quarter of 2013, Canada’s publicly traded television service providers combined to add subscription TV customers, thanks to the record growth of IPTV, reversing a trend of cumulative losses in each of the previous three quarters. Banducci leaving Cogeco’s Peer1 Hosting

MONTREAL – Cogeco Cable said Tuesday that Fabio Banducci has resigned from his duties as co-CEO of its wholly-owned subsidiary Peer1 Hosting to refocus on other opportunities. TORONTO – Al Jazeera English launched on SaskTel this week, making it available to over 97,000 SaskTel maxTV subscribers through channel 58. Recent acquisitions drive solid Q4 for Cogeco

MONTREAL – The acquisitions of Atlantic Broadband and Peer 1 Networks drove results at Cogeco Inc. to new heights, the company reported last Wednesday. MONTREAL – In a move that seems more like a shot at a competitor, Coegco Cable confirmed its “commitment to its customers' privacy” in a news release on Monday. Cogeco launches home phone service in Fergus, Elora

MONTREAL – Cogeco rolled out its residential phone service in the communities of Fergus and Elora in Ontario this week. The company said that customers may select one of three packages starting at $13.99 per month, keep their current phone number, and have the option of adding features such as long distance packages and voice mail.
