SCTE Canadian Summit gets under way today with Comcast CTO Werner


TORONTO – A keynote address from Comcast Cable’s chief technology officer Tony Werner will highlight day one of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers 2011 Canadian Summit.

Werner has worked for a number of large cable operations over the years, including a stint at Rogers Cable. His breakfast speech is on the theme “Broadband Video: Challenge or Opportunity” and if anyone would know, it’s the guy who oversees one of the world’s largest, most diverse fibre and coaxial plants in the world.

He is sticking around until Wednesday, too, when he will be on a panel of well-known and respected industry leaders which will include Richard Green (former CEO of CableLabs), Daniel Howard, SVP and CTO of the SCTE and Dermot O’Carroll, SVP access networks, Rogers Communications.

In between and after Werner’s appearances are 14 other sessions geared towards sharing intelligence among cable’s technicians and engineers, not to mention a sold-out trade show, the Young Canadian Engineering Professional of the Year Award and the 2011 Technology Challenge (to be emceed by Cartt.ca editor and publisher Greg O’Brien.
