SCTE adds advanced network tech program director


EXTON, PA – Hugh Brydges has been hired by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers as director, advanced network technologies program development.

In this newly-created position, Brydges will be responsible for researching cable telecommunications technology and writing and reviewing technical content for professional development programs. He will be tasked with critically analyzing technical information and identifying emerging technical trends and SCTE growth opportunities in the area of advanced networks and applications.

Brydges is a voice and IP technical professional with 20 years in the telecom field.

“Having Hugh on board with his diverse telecommunications experience will enable SCTE to further expand the professional development resources for its 14,000-plus members,” said SCTE vice-president, professional development Marv Nelson.

Brydges comes to SCTE from NetOne International, a leading international long-distance company, where he served since 2002 as vice president, sales and marketing. While there, Brydges developed the sales strategy to increase revenue through horizontal and vertical channel development to increase the company’s customer base more than 100% annually.

Prior to NetOne, Brydges served as senior manager, local access planning for Qwest Communications and before that with FairPoint Communications as director, provisioning and network engineering. At FairPoint, Brydges managed the day-to-day engineering department’s work on the DSL platform. He approved engineering specifications and developed network design architecture.

Before that, Brydges worked for Adelphia Communications from 1995 to 2000 as senior manager, provisioning and network design. He managed the day-to-day operations of the provisioning and network design groups for Adelphia’s nationwide network deployment (a.k.a., “Hyperion/Adelphia Business Systems”). He established the budget and test plan for new equipment deployment. Additionally, he developed and enhanced business processes for order management, provisioning systems, equipment inventory records, and network installations.

Brydges’s background prior to Adelphia included a first tour of duty with Qwest from 1994 to 1995, when he served as manager, network engineer, and developed the budget and engineering specifications for a nationwide network architecture conversion.
