Scott Moore to lead CBC Sports

TORONTO – CBC Television today announced the appointment of Scott Moore as executive director, CBC Sports, effective March 5.

"As a Gemini and Emmy award-winning producer with an international reputation for innovative sports production, Scott has a wealth of knowledge and experience which will provide a tremendous benefit to the CBC," said Richard Stursberg, executive vice-president of CBC Television, in a press release. "Sports are a key part of the CBC’s service to Canadians."

Most recently, Moore owned an independent production company, Vancouver-based Top Notch Studios, where he was involved in the Athens and Torino Olympic Games, the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, the Grand Prix of Edmonton, the Asian Games and other projects. Before that, he was vice-president, production and operations for Rogers Sportsnet and was responsible for launching the all-sports specialty channel. He also has considerable experience with other networks and spent some time at TSN.

"I’m very excited with this opportunity to help take CBC Sports to its next level," Moore said. "This is a tremendously dynamic time, with the NHL playoffs about to begin; a comprehensive schedule of FIFA soccer coming soon, including this summer’s Under-20 World Cup; the 2008 Olympic Games from Beijing; Grand Slam curling and another season of CFL. As always, the CBC will be operating in a competitive and rapidly-changing environment and I intend to build on its reputation for excellence and strengthen the CBC’s position as the place Canadians turn for the best in amateur and professional sports."

Left unsaid were the many challenges facing the sports department with the loss of the Canadian Football League coming in the 2008 season and the fact the Beijing Olympics in 2008 will be the Corp’s last one for a while, not to mention other programming losses such as Brier curling.
