HAMILTON, ON – Friends and colleagues of the late Juris Silkans (pictured) are invited to help create a graduate scholarship in his name at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, where he attended school.
The scholarship, to be named The Juris Silkans Graduate Scholarship in Communications and New Media, requires organizers to raise $62,500 in order to endow it in perpetuity. The scholarship will pay out $15,000 annually, provided that the matching programs at the university and the province of Ontario continue.
Contributions to the scholarship are tax deductible in both Canada and the United States. In Canada, contributions by Canadian citizens can be made online here. For American citizens, cheques payable to Friends of McMaster, Inc., may be mailed to Lori Moulden, Alumni Advancement, McMaster University, 1280 Main Street West, Alumni House, Hamilton, ON, L8S 4K1 Canada. Credit card donations may be made by contacting Lori Moulden directly at (905) 525-9140 ext. 27255
“It would be wonderful if we could endow a scholarship in our friend Juris' name to ensure that his memory lives on in a way that reflected his life and his passions”, writes long-time friend and colleague Richard Stursberg.
