Scaredy Squirrel’s Halloween-themed promotion has legs

TORONTO – Just in time for Halloween, Corus-owned children’s publisher Kids Can Press has kicked off a marketing campaign in support of the latest book from its best-selling Scaredy Squirrel series.

The campaign is centred around a one-minute Public Service Announcement (PSA) starring Scaredy Squirrel, the notoriously cautious children’s book character, where he offers safety tips for trick-or-treating based on the just-released book Scaredy Squirrel Prepares for Halloween.

Together with Montreal author-illustrator Mélanie Watt, Kids Can Press worked with an animator from Nelvana and audio and post-production specialists at Corus to bring Scaredy to life.  A French-language PSA was created simultaneously for Scholastic, Watt’s French publisher in Canada.

The PSA is being promoted and distributed through Corus’ TreehouseTV and FreshFM stations across Canada, and the Shaw Pumpkin Patrol is sharing the PSA on its homepage.  It may also be seen on YouTube, Vimeo and ScaredySquirrel.com.

To date, the video has had nearly 10,000 views in just three weeks, and the campaign has reached over 100,000 through Twitter and Facebook.
