Save the dates for IIC Canada 2012

OTTAWA – This year’s International Institute of Communications (IIC) Canada convention will take place October 29 – 30, 2012 at the Ottawa Convention Centre, organizers have confirmed.

The annual event looks at the underlying investment and structural issues facing Canadian and international broadcasting, telecom and new media stakeholders.  Some of the notable themes and questions to be addressed this year include:

– Private investment in Canadian content: who is investing where, and what it is the expectation for return on that investment?

– What's happening on the leading edge of scientific research, and what will advances in quantum computing and nanotechnology mean for broadcasting and telecommunications in coming years?

– Are Canadians making the most efficient use of spectrum as a public resource?

– Where will spectrum supply pressures come from, on the telecom, satellite and broadcasting fronts?  Where is the innovation taking place to wring more bandwidth from available spectrum?

– Is the Internet destined to be an open, interoperable technology, or is it becoming a series of interconnected walled gardens based on proprietary standards?

– As Canada's North becomes an increasing source of strategic resources and economic growth for the country and the world, what are the implications and opportunities for broadcasting, telecom and broadband infrastructure?

Program and registration details will be released in the coming weeks.
