MONTREAL – Alain Saulnier, executive director of news and current affairs at Radio Canada, is leaving the corporation next month. No reason was offered for his departure which is scheduled for March 16, 2012.
After joining Radio-Canada in 1984, Saulnier went on to head up French-language radio news and current affairs services in 1999. In 2006, he was appointed executive director for news and current affairs, consolidating Radio-Canada's TV and radio news services under one integrated structure.
"Alain Saulnier is highly respected in Canada's journalism community, and he has been largely instrumental in shaping the tradition of quality and excellence in news reporting that have become one of the public broadcaster's calling cards," said EVP Louis Lalande, in Thursday’s announcement. "Under his leadership, investigative journalism has advanced by leaps and bounds at Radio-Canada – this hasn't gone unnoticed, and it's also had a tangible impact on social and democratic life for all Canadians. I'd like to thank Alain for his contribution to the public broadcaster's services."
