OTTAWA – Telesat has named satellite industry expert Don Brown as its general manager of government services.

Based in the company’s Washington, DC office, Brown (pictured) will create and execute Telesat’s business strategy in global government markets for its geostationary fleet, specifically the company’s high throughput satellite Telstar Vantage series and its low earth orbit satellite constellation, now in development.

In 2016, Via Satellite magazine named the Australian Defence Force Hosted Payload program, conceived and led by Brown, as one of the “30 Key Satellite Industry Events of the Last 30 Years”.  Brown also won the first ‘Joint Capability Technology Demonstration’ award to the commercial satellite industry from the U.S. Department of Defense, plus co-founded the Hosted Payload Alliance and led the ‘IP Router in Space’ hosted payload program sponsored by the U.S. Strategic Command.

“Don Brown has built one of the best records in our industry developing hosted payload agreements and other high profile initiatives that benefit government customers,” said Telesat’s international sales VP Tom Eaton, in the announcement.  “Don’s technical and commercial expertise, along with his knowledge of how government satcom needs are evolving, will provide greater opportunities for Telesat to deliver powerful communications solutions to government customers in the U.S. and overseas – solutions that offer new levels of performance, security and reliability.”
