REGINA – SaskTel has announced plans to bring its infiNET fibre optic network to Humboldt, Melfort, Melville, Nipawin, and Tisdale this year.

Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks, with infiNET expected to rollout in select neighbourhoods in all five communities by the end of 2019.  SaskTel said that the service provides up to 300 Mbps download and 80 Mbps upload, plus enhances customers’ maxTV experience.

“With infiNET, our customers will be able to enjoy incredibly fast internet speeds that are unrivaled by anything else in their communities,” said SaskTel President and CEO Doug Burnett, in the news release.  “And, as customer demand for bandwidth evolves over time, the fibre optics platform that infiNET is built on will provide us with the flexibility required to quickly grow and meet those demands for decades to come.”

“Council and I are very excited that SaskTel is bringing this upgrade to Humboldt,” added Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench. “We live in an increasingly data-hungry culture that relies on bandwidth. Residents and businesses alike are looking for faster, more cost-effective, secure and reliable ways to share information and do business. Upgrading to a fibre optics backbone and connecting homes and offices is a very positive economic influence for our community and for those looking to relocate here.”

The infiNET expansion project is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest $1.4 billion across Saskatchewan through 2023.
