REGINA – SaskTel is expanding its fibre optic network infiNET to Yorkton and Rosthern.

Construction will begin in the spring of 2017 with service available in some neighborhoods in Yorkton by early summer.  infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises program, a $670 million investment to deploy fibre optics directly to homes and upgrade the broadband network in the nine largest urban centers in the province, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert.

SaskTel also announced that it will invest $1.8 million in a pilot project to upgrade the rural community of Rosthern to infiNET.  Construction will begin in the spring of 2017 and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

After careful consideration, Rosthern was selected as the optimal location predominantly due to its proximity to Prince Albert and Saskatoon, which will allow SaskTel to leverage its existing Fibre To The Premises expertise and resources from both cities to aid the project.

This pilot project is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016/17 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.
