REGINA – SaskTel announced Wednesday that it has started switching on its 5G network in Swift Current.
The wireless network, which can reach download speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second, is part of a $1.5 billion investment from the crown corporation that has recently announced expansions into rural parts of the province.
“These investments will help Saskatchewan accelerate its transition to becoming a smart province and ensure it remains one of the most well-connected regions in the country,” said a press release.
“With each new network launch, we strengthen Saskatchewan’s communications backbone and move forward in our efforts to support a vibrant, smart economy,” Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO, said in the release.
“As we expand our 5G footprint,” he added, “we’re eager to bring faster speeds and improved connectivity to more consumers and businesses.”
