SaskTel announced Monday several measures to help support customers who have been evacuated due to the ongoing wildfires in northern Saskatchewan.
“Our government is waiving SaskTel overage fees for customers affected by the wildfires in our province to ensure Saskatchewan families can remain connected with their support networks and loved ones,” said Jeremy Harrison, provincial minister responsible for Crown corporation SaskTel, in a press release. “We are also ensuring that SaskTel customers forced to leave their homes due to the wildfires will not be charged for television, internet and home phones services.”
From May 31 to June 16, SaskTel will automatically waive all data overage charges for SaskTel customers living in Birch Portage First Nation, Brabant Lake, Canoe Lake, Creighton, Denare Beach, Deschambault Lake, East Trout Lake, Jan Lake, Little Bear Lake, Lower Fishing Lake, Morin Lake #217, Pelican Narrows, Piprell Lake, Sandy Bay, Southend, Sturgeon Weir, Weyakwin, and Whelan Bay.
In addition, SaskTel will credit customers for their SaskTel Internet, maxTV Stream and home phone services for the duration of their evacuation.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe declared a provincial state of emergency May 29 due to the wildfires affecting communities across the province. As of that date, there had been 206 wildfires in 2025 in Saskatchewan, with 17 still active and forcing several communities to evacuate.
An update Monday on the provincial government’s website said there are still 16 active wildfires.
