REGINA – SaskTel has rolled out its faster high speed Internet in 29 more communities in rural Saskatchewan.

Residents and businesses in Aberdeen, Asquith, Balcarres,, Bengough, Cabri, Craik, Cupar, Cut Knife, Duck Lake, Dundurn, Eatonia, Elrose,Hanley, Herbert, Kyle, Lafleche, Midale, Montmartre, Nokomis, Paradise Hill, Pierceland, Ponteix, Quill Lake, Radisson, Rockglen, Springside, St. Brieux, Turtleford, and Wawota now have access to the company’s High Speed Advanced service, which offers download speeds of up to 10 Mbps.

In addition, the community of Paynton may now subscribe to SaskTel’s High Speed Basic level 2 package that offers speeds of up to 5 Mbps download.

First introduced at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities 2013 annual conference, this announcement is part of SaskTel’s long-term strategy to both increase access to higher Internet speeds to over 200 existing DSL served communities, and to continue expanding the DSL network into over 50 rural communities that have not yet had access to this technology.

“Rural Saskatchewan is experiencing unprecedented growth and prosperity and with that comes opportunity,” said Kevin Doherty, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in the news release. “By providing communities with access to high speed internet and also enhancing the internet  speeds available in over 200 communities, our government is opening up doors for entrepreneurs that want to live outside of our major centers but still need access to how business is done in the world today. Those businesses simply cannot work with old fashioned dial-up Internet.”

SaskTel added that it is investing $1.2 million in the expansion that will result in enhanced ability for both private customers using the Internet for home entertainment and business customers doing work on a provincial, national and international scale.
