REGINA – On Monday, SaskTel announced plans to expand its Infinet fibre optic network, to Battleford and North Battleford this year. Construction will begin in the spring of 2018 with the service expected to be available in some neighbourhoods by early summer.
"Infinet is a game changer,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel acting president and CEO, in the press release. “By bringing fibre right to our customers’ homes we’re able to provide them with speeds that are unmatched by any other network in Saskatchewan.”
The service is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) program, a $670 million investment to bring fibre optics directly to homes and businesses by upgrading SaskTel’s broadband network across Saskatchewan’s nine largest cities, says the press release. The service provides up to 300 Mbps download and 80 Mbps upload.
The FTTP program is part of the provincial Crown corporation's commitment to spend $1.4 billion across Saskatchewan through 2021.
