REGINA – SaskTel has launched its fibre optic network infiNET in select neighbourhoods of Yorkton and Rosthern.

infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises program, a $670 million investment to deploy fibre optics directly to homes and upgrade the broadband network in the province’s nine largest urban centers.

Residents living in infiNET served neighborhoods may now connect to the new network, with all residents having the opportunity to sign-up for Internet and maxTV service over infiNET once their neighborhood is converted.

Once connected, infiNET will allow customers to experience Internet speeds of up to 260 Mbps for downloading and 60 Mbps for uploading, plus enable the company's MaxTV customers to receive HD programming and digital TV recording delivered to every set-top box in the home.

SaskTel announced last December that it would invest $1.8 million in a pilot project to bring infiNET to Rosthern, and that the results would help to determine the feasibility of expanding infiNET to more rural communities throughout Saskatchewan in the future.
