REGINA — SaskTel released its eighth annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report Tuesday, saying it reinforced the company’s commitment to being an ethical, active and engaged member of the communities it serves in Saskatchewan.

“SaskTel has been proudly operating for 110 years and investing in the communities where we live and work has always been a priority for the company and our employees,” said Doug Burnett, acting president and CEO of SaskTel, in a news release announcing the release of the company’s 2017/18 Corporate Social Responsibility Report.

“We believe our commitment to our customers goes beyond simply providing world-class products and services and this is what truly sets us apart from our competition,” Burnett added.

In 2017/18, SaskTel invested more than $302 million in capital expenditures to expand and improve the speeds of its networks and to enhance its ability to deliver the services its customers rely on. In addition to the infrastructure investment, SaskTel said it continued to focus on providing amazing customer experiences by improving the tools frontline staff use to provide customers with the services they want and need, while also increasing customers’ ability to interact with SaskTel in the way they like best.

In keeping with its tradition of giving back to the communities it serves, SaskTel said it contributed more than $3 million in 2017/18 to nearly 1,000 non-profit and charitable organizations, community associations, venues, events and partnerships in more than 200 communities across Saskatchewan. Furthermore, the SaskTel Pioneers volunteered their time, talents and skills for more than 100 ongoing community projects, contributing more than $182,300 in charitable donations and logging more than 31,400 hours of volunteer time in support of initiatives that help improve communities across the province, the company said.

SaskTel also continues to raise awareness about bullying and cyber-bullying prevention through its I Am Stronger (IAS) initiative. Since the launch of the IAS program, almost $52,000 has been awarded in grants to youth in communities all over the province, allowing them to implement their own bullying prevention initiatives.

“We recognize that the products and services we sell may be used by bullies in their activities and we are working hard to counter the potential negative impacts associated with evolving communications technologies,” Burnett said.
