SaskTel releases Environmental, Social and Governance report


REGINA – SaskTel today released its SaskTel Cares 2020/21 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report.

SaskTel Cares, which brought together all the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, was launched last year. Today’s report highlights “SaskTel’s impact on the environment, the social influence on our communities, and our governance practice focused on ethical leadership and practices,” a press release says.

Specific highlights include:

  • SaskTel donating over $2.5 million to 308 non-profit and charitable organizations.
  • SaskTel Pioneers, a volunteer network of retired and current employees, making $281,313 in financial donations and $1.1. million in-kind donations.
  • SaskTel TelCare, an employee-driven donation program, contributing $229,765 to 65 local non-profit and charitable organizations.
  • SaskTel being recognized for its “sustainability and greening efforts, being once again named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.”
  • SaskTel becoming “a Signatory of the Indigenous Engagement Charter, and initiative put forth by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.”

The report further highlights the investments SaskTel is making in its networks and notes the company “continues to bring world-class communications technologies to residents throughout our province, covering 99% of the population with wireless and internet,” says the press release.

“Environmental, Social, and Governance initiatives have always been a key part of SaskTel’s identity and an integral part to how we operate,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO, in the press release.

“It speaks to how we continually strive to foster healthy work environments, diverse leadership and innovation within our workforce and the community, as well as how we incorporate sustainability into our day-to-day operations.”
