REGINA — SaskTel announced Thursday it’s moving to paperless billing as part of its continuing efforts to be a green company. The company said it will begin migrating customers with Internet access to an e-bill on March 27, 2019, and will continue to gradually migrate customers throughout the rest of the year.

“SaskTel has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the past ten years and we are committed to reducing the environmental footprint caused by our monthly bills,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO, in a news release announcing the billing change. “Every year, over 36 million pieces of paper are used to send customer bills and along with the environmental benefits there are significant cost savings associated with decreasing the number of paper bills we send.”

SaskTel said it will implement a phased approach to going paperless, first targeting customers with an online mySASKTEL profile (beginning March 27) and customers on pre-authorized payments (beginning mid-May). Customers will be required to have a mySASKTEL profile to be able to view their e-bill as well as manage their SaskTel services.

The second phase of the paperless bill migration will see all remaining customers with Internet access moved to an e-bill throughout the remainder of 2019. Those customers who have voice-only access without an Internet connection or have business services will not be migrated to an e-bill, SaskTel said.

“We also realize in some instances due to personal circumstances customers require a paper version of their bill and we will provide customers with this option if that is their preference,” Burnett added.
