SaskTel launching infiNET service in 38 more rural communities

SaskTel announced Monday it recently began launching its infiNET service in another 38 rural communities in Saskatchewan.

The communities benefiting from SaskTel’s fibre network expansion include Aberdeen, Arcola, Asquith, Avonlea, Balcarres, Cabri, Churchbridge, Craik, Cupar, Eastend, Elrose, Eston, Gravelbourg, Grenfell, Hepburn, Herbert, Île-à-la-Crosse, Kenosee Lake, Kerrobert, La Loche, Langenburg, Lanigan, Leroy, Manitou Beach, Marshall, McLean, Milestone, Muenster, Nokomis, Ponteix, Qu’Appelle, Rouleau, Spiritwood, Stoughton, Strasbourg, Vonda, Wadena, and Wilkie.

“Our government is delivering for Saskatchewan people by directing SaskTel to expand its high-speed broadband network to small towns and villages across our province through the Rural Fibre Initiative,” Jeremy Harrison, minister responsible for SaskTel, said in the provincial Crown corporation’s press release Monday.

The Rural Fibre Initiative is a multi-phase program that will see SaskTel invest $280 million to bring infiNET service to nearly 200 rural communities by the end of 2027.

“With SaskTel’s infiNET service now available in 38 additional communities, more families and businesses will benefit from faster internet and enhanced connectivity. Whether it’s supporting students with online learning, helping businesses grow, or keeping families connected, this investment is another step toward building a stronger, more connected Saskatchewan,” Harrison said.

Currently, SaskTel infiNET service delivers internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Additionally, SaskTel will be able to increase the capacity of the infiNET network to meet the evolving needs of customers, SaskTel’s press release said.

“We are thrilled to bring the incredible speed and power of Saskatchewan’s largest fibre optic broadband network to these communities,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO, in a statement. “For SaskTel, the work we are doing to upgrade both our provincial broadband and wireless networks is more than just infrastructure improvements; it’s about building a brighter and more connected future for our province by ensuring the people of Saskatchewan have access to the tools and technologies they need to grow and thrive in the digital era.”

Since first launching infiNET service in 2011, SaskTel has invested nearly $1 billion to connect thousands of Saskatchewan homes and businesses, according to the press release. The infiNET network’s continued expansion is a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest nearly $466 million of capital throughout Saskatchewan in 2025/26, the release said.
