REGINA – SaskTel has rolled out its faster high speed Internet in 21 more communities in rural Saskatchewan.
Residents and businesses in Birch Hills, Carlyle, Carrot River, Cochin, Delisle, Eston, Gravelbourg, Gull Lake, Kelvington, Kerrobert, Kipling, Langham, Leader, Maidstone, Oxbow, Redvers, Rocanville, Sedley, Spiritwood, Wakaw, and Whitewood now have access to the company’s High Speed Advanced service, which offers download speeds of up to 10 Mbps.
First introduced at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities 2013 annual conference, this announcement is part of SaskTel’s long-term strategy to both increase access to higher Internet speeds to over 200 existing DSL served communities, and to continue expanding the DSL network into over 50 rural communities that have not yet had access to this technology.
“Rural Saskatchewan is experiencing unprecedented growth and prosperity and with that comes opportunity,” said Don McMorris, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in the press release. “By providing these communities with access to even higher speed Internet, our government is opening up doors for entrepreneurs that want to live outside of our major centers but still need access to how business is done in the world today. Those businesses simply cannot work with old fashioned dial-up Internet.”
