SaskTel launches 5G at SaskTel Centre sports and concert arena

SASKATOON – SaskTel announced Tuesday it has recently launched its 5G network at SaskTel Centre, the home arena of the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades and the National Lacrosse League’s Saskatchewan Rush as well as being a concert venue.

“Delivering hyper-fast data speeds, SaskTel’s 5G network will allow SaskTel customers to connect faster than before without ever leaving their seat. Plus, as the network evolves, it will enable new use cases for emerging wireless technologies that will enhance the in-person fan experience,” reads a SaskTel press release.

“At SaskTel, we are committed to keeping our customers connected,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO, in the release. “We’re excited to bring the power of 5G to SaskTel Centre to ensure our customers are better equipped than ever to connect and share the live-event experience with their network of friends and family.”

SaskTel Centre’s CEO, John Howden, said “having SaskTel’s 5G network now covering SaskTel Centre is going to offer our guests an unparalleled experience,” whether they’re attending a concert or sports event.

“The partnership between SaskTel and SaskTel Centre is a testament to our mutual commitment to providing the best possible services to our guests and we are appreciative of this opportunity to provide an enhanced, seamless digital experience at all events,” Howden added.

Speaking about the availability of SaskTel’s 5G network to sports fans at SaskTel Centre, Colin Priestner, president of the Saskatoon Blades and Saskatchewan Rush, said: “We’re thrilled at the new possibilities this network will provide to our game night entertainment and also for our fans to remain connected and to be able to share their experience.”

To connect to 5G at SaskTel Centre, SaskTel customers need to have a 5G-capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network and a subscription to a 5G-compatible wireless plan.

SaskTel’s launch of 5G at SaskTel Centre is part of the provincial Crown corporation’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years, the release says.
