REGINA – SaskTel will roll out high speed Internet service to eight more rural communities next year plus boost speeds in 19 more locations.

The company announced plans to deploy High Speed Basic Internet, which offers download speeds of up to 5 Mbps, in Craven, Good Spirit Lake, and Madge Lake in 2016.  SaskTel will also launch High Speed Basic and Advanced Internet service, which provides download speeds of up to 10 Mbps, in Riverhurst, Frobisher, St. Benedict, Minton, and Alvena.

In addition, the following 19 communities will have access to even faster High Speed Internet service by the end of 2016 with the launch of High Speed Advanced, offering download speeds of up to 10 Mbps: Davidson, Waldheim, Ogema, Frontier, Loon Lake, Debden, Codette, Rhein, Weldon, Rapid View, Shaunavon, Hudson Bay, Grenfell, Fort Qu’Appelle, Regina Beach, Buena Vista, Kenosee Lake, Macklin, and Unity.

SaskTel said that the expansion will result in enhanced ability for both private customers using the Internet for home entertainment and business customers doing work on a provincial, national and international scale.

“Rural Saskatchewan continues to experience unprecedented growth,” said Jim Reiter, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in the news release.  “By providing these communities with access to improved high speed Internet, our government is opening up doors for entrepreneurs that want to live outside of our major centers but still need access to how business is done in the world today.”
